Musical Weekend

I know I haven’t posted in a while...

Partially I’ve been too busy...and partially I just haven’t felt like it...

Anyway, I had a pretty big music weekend. On Saturday, I had band practice 4:30 – 5:30, after which the Tok’ra, Nox, and I went to McDonalds to grab a bite to eat before the concert at our church. It was a bit annoying, because we had to sit through the whole thing only to play two songs...but I didn’t really mind that night.

On Sunday at 2:00 was the MS/HS holiday band concert. The Tok’ra and I had to go there early for Holiday Cheer, which played holiday music before the concert. The only other time we actually performed was the sixth of December for our town’s tree lighting, and there were two songs we totally messed up on, but the crowd didn’t seem to notice...or rather care...but that time we performed the holiday music well. After the sixth grade band and 7/8 grade band, it was time for the Senior High band to perform, and I must say, I have no regrets about the concert. I think I played very well...and did very well during my two solos during Pachelbel’s Cannon and Sedona (the solo during Sedona was the “more important” one of the two).

Afterwards, we went to a band party at a fellow band member’s house, and then went to perform at the church again. I wish we only had it once (though, I mostly wish that I could have stayed at the party longer)...it seemed so pointless to sit through it again...I wanted to leave early, but I would feel so awkward doing so...

Oh, and on the 8th, I had a good audition for the Senior High Jazz Band, and I will be rotating the 1st and 2nd parts with a sophomore. I got a total of 18 points for my audition (out of 20 points), so I’m happy with how I did. The sophomore got a 16, but since her main instrument is a tuba, I think she did well. At least, better then the freshman whose main instrument is a baritone and tried out for jazz band on a trumpet...though, he also tried out on his baritone, and he received 3rd trombone, and will be playing the valve trombone for jazz band. I don’t think I’ve actually seen one in real life, but it apparently has the same fingerings as baritone, yet the sound of a trombone (yeah, I know...“duh!”).

I don’t know, but I think a valve trombone is almost useless...I mean, you can’t move the slide...and that’s the special thing about the trombone! Humph!

I was impressed by all of your performances. And I was VERY impressed by the fact that the back of the High School program said that you made COUNTY band! You didn't tell us. *impressed to the max* Good on ya.

Too bad about leaving the party early. Now, THAT'S a bummer.

Congrats on all your band accomplishments! That's great!

I played some slide trumpet for a little while... it was... weird. Eventually I went back to the valves. I have my hands full with just the usual trumpet, after all!
